Transitional Living Treatment For Women

Transitional Living serves as a segway between alcohol and drug rehab and sober living. It offers a structured program in the treatment of alcoholism. Awakenings USA specifically treats women suffering from the disease of alcoholism and drug dependence.

Initially, alcoholics and/or addicts are in denial of their disease and consequently require an intervention wherein family members organize to confront the alcoholic/addict and convince them of the need for alcohol and drug treatment. The intervention is powerful in that family members typically are willing to sever relationships with the alcoholic/addict if they remain unwilling to attend alcohol and drug treatment. After being in alcohol and drug rehab, many people find themselves limited to stay for the time required due to financial reasons. Transitional Living is the ideal arrangement in that it offers many of the services of alcohol and drug rehab at a much lower cost. Transitional Living helps people maintain the treatment gains made in alcohol and drug residential treatment. Awakenings USA offers Transitional Living that is gender specific, exclusively for women. The Transitional Living program is limited to a maximum of 6 women and private rooms are available. It differs from alcohol and drug treatment within a hospital or alcohol and drug residential treatment center in that it provides increased levels of freedom and responsibility including the opportunities to volunteer for community services and/or to obtain part time or full time employment.

The Transitional Living program at Awakenings USA includes 12 step recovery meetings and daily contact with an AA or NA sponsor. Clients are randomly drug tested also. Meals and transportation are also included.

Transitional Living also offers ongoing support groups and education aimed at Relapse Prevention, Life Skills, Coping Skills, Step Studies, etc. All Transitional Living groups are facilitated by Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

Although Transitional Living is considered to be a less restrictive level of care, Awakenings USA offers opportunities for Individual Psychotherapy, Family Therapy and Marital Therapy. Multiple Family Support Groups are offered free as part of the Transitional Living program.

We regret that we are unable to accept women suffering from severe mental illness including those who are actively hallucinating/delusional or who have a history of violence.
